TikTok: Rex airline workers seen having BBQ on the tarmac
Two Australian airline workers have been filmed having a BBQ on the tarmac in viral footage.
The video, which has been viewed 1.3 million times on TikTok, shows two Rex Airlines ground crew cooking up burgers and sausages using a portable electric grill in the shade underneath a building, just off the runway.
Their BBQ setup, complete with office chair and fold-out table, includes the requisite hamburger and hot-dog buns, butter and tomato sauce.
“‘Why’s the flight delayed?’” reads the text on the video uploaded by Kirra Colquhoun, set to the tune of Frankie Davidson’s The Aussie Barbeque Song.
news.com.au is not suggesting the airline workers in the video are responsible for any flight delay.
Comments on social media said it was filmed at Brisbane Airport, just near Gate 30.
“It was a really good breakfast ngl,” wrote one TikTok user, who claimed to “work with the BBQ guys”.
“As a former employee, we did this all the time! It was the best,” another wrote.
“This is the most Aussie thing ever, and I’m for it,” one woman said.
“I always fly Rex and they are always the nicest carrier for domestic and the fairest price, never had any delays so the ground crew deserve that BBQ,” another man said.

A spokesman for Rex Airlines said, “Rex is aware of the video and understands its humorous intent.
“However, the contracted Ground Handling Company who employed the staff involved has been advised of the need to find a suitable location for such events, lest they be misconstrued.
“Further, and most importantly, the individuals were on an rostered meal break at the time and no flights were affected as a result, two key facts that were obviously not known by the individual who posted the video with captions attached.”
